Almost something happens... but no
When you don’t believe a story that a movie is telling you, there’s nothing left that you can do about it.
With an Oscar Winning screenplay —I still don’t figure how it was obtained—, the movie recreates the 70’s, the Golden Age of Rock. It’s a huge material to work with, but it was wasted. The characters are very stereotyped, specially the mother and the kid. The members of the band find him great, but in the entire movie he never shows why is worthy of that flattery. Besides, I missed a climax. The story was plain, nothing happens, and the relationship between Kate Hudson’s character and the vocalist of the band is annoying. The soundtrack is great, though.
I would recommend it to my rock-lover friends. I’m sure they will enjoy it much more of what I did.
Yes, it’s very very different from what I usually watch. I prefer the dramas, and movies with good acting and good stories. Maybe this story is, indeed, a good one, but Cameron Crowe didn’t know how to get advantage of that. I remember when I watched Jerry McGuire, with Tom Cruise and directed by Crowe. It’s a bad movie, really, so I didn’t expect much from Almost Famous.
